I HEART Hawaii!!! Day 3 in Hawaii was Valentines Day, but none of us really remembered that. It was also Sunday so we decided to go to Pearl Harbor. As a family, we really enjoy history, so Pearl Harbor was a hit!! We got our tickets to see the movie and to go to the memorial and then spent some time looking at some different things around the memorial because we had about 45 minutes until the movie started. It's very peaceful there and I kept looking around, thinking about what it must have been like on the morning of December 7, 1941 ,was like. It's hard to believe that something that horrible happened it such a peaceful place. Anyways, we went and watched a movie about the attack on Pearl Harbor. It was about 20 or 25 minutes long. It had a lot of old movie footage and pictures in it. After the movie, we left the theater and then loaded onto a boat to go over to the memorial. When we got to the memorial, we got off of the boat and looked around. First we walked into a room with flags. There are flags representing the different services of the military and then state flags representing the ships that were lost that day. They had state flags because the ships were names after ships. Then we walked into the area where we could look down at the sunken USS Arizona. It's very sobering. There were 1550 men on board the ship when it was attacked. The bodies of more than 1100 men are forever entombed in their watery grave on the USS Arizona. The day before the attack on Pearl Harbor, the USS Arizona filled up with oil. Today, there is still about 2 gallons of oil that leaks from it every day. We were able to listen to some other cool information about the memorial from a man that works there. After we looked around there for a while, we went to another part of the memorial that has a huge wall with the names of all of the men who were lost that day. Finally it was time to load back up on the boat. We made it back to shore and we went and bought some souvenirs at the gift shop. Then we headed to eat lunch at McDonalds.

After we ate lunch, we decided to go to the Punchbowl Cemetery. It's a military cemetery that's in an old volcano crater. We really get into the military stuff!!

After the Punchbowl Cemetery, we went back to our hotel and went to the beach. Travis decided to bury the girls.

After the beach we decided to go and eat. First we thought we'd take the trolley to downtown. Every trolley that come by was packed or there were others we couldn't get on because they were for Japanese people only. After waiting about 30 minutes, we went back and got in our rental van. We drove to what I guess would be called downtown Waikiki and it was packed, plus we couldn't find anywhere to park. We finally realized that downtown Waikiki was really close to our hotel, so we went back and parked our van and walked. We found the Cheesecake Factory and put our name on the list. It was a 2 1/2 hour wait so we decided to see what else we could find. We were wondering why it was sooooooo busy in downtown, but we finally realized that it was Valentines Day, plus there was something going on with Chinese New Year. We walked and found a Denny's that was busy, but the wait was only about 20 minutes. We were all relieved to finally get some dinner. After we ate, we walked back to our hotel and went to bed!!
