Fullmer Family Adventures: Day 5-Polynesian Cultural Center

We decided to go to the Polynesian Cultural Center or PCC. We wanted to get the whole experience so we bought tickets that included a guided tour of the PCC, a luau and tickets to the night show. The PCC is on the North Shore. At the PCC there are different villages representing the Polynesian groups. There is Hawaii, Tonga, Samoa, Tahiti, Fiji, New Zealand and the Easter Islands. We were a little early so we decided to hang out at the beach for a little bit. It was fun. We found some fun shells. We finally made it to the PCC. We were put with our tour guide, Don Don. He's from the Philippines and is going to school at BYU-Hawaii. There was us and about 10 other people in our group. We started off by getting shell necklaces and then headed to the theater. Don Don showed us some behind the scenes stuff. After that, we went on a canoe tour. At the end of the tour we started at the village of Hawaii. We saw a huge canoe, tasted Poi (spelling??) and Brielle and Lainey learned to Hula. We then took a quick lunch break. Afterwards we went to the villages of Tonga, Samoa, Fiji, Tahiti, New Zealand and Easter Islands. At the different villages we saw different things. Some we went into the huts and learned about cultural things. We also saw some music presentations. We also saw the canoe parade. Each village was represented and did native dances. My favorite village was Samoa. There was this crazy guy named Cap who did a lot of crazy things. At the end of the presentation at Samoa, a guy climbed up a really tall coconut tree. We kind of felt rushed going to all of the villages and wish we could've spent more time. We did find out that the tickets were good for 3 days so if we would have had time, we could've went back for a couple of days, but we didn't. Anyways, after we saw the villages, we headed to the luau. We all got fresh flower lei's. We also ordered a really good smoothie that we brought to us in a fresh pineapple. Before the food, there was a program that was really good. The food was awesome and I wish I would've ate more!! After the luau, we had a little time before the night show so we went to the gift shops and got a few souvenirs. We had really good seats for the show. It's a new show that has only been around for about 6 months. It tells a story of a boy from birth to manhood. The different parts of his life are depicted through the different Polynesian cultures. It was neat. During intermission, we all got some good ice cream too. The only bad part of the show was the old man Brielle was sitting by. There was no flash photography during the show. I turned off the flashes on the kids cameras. Brielle started taking some pics (with no flash) and the old man told her that she couldn't take pictures because it bothered him. What a SCROOOOGE!! At intermission, Travis traded her spots and he sat by the old man!! It was a long, but great day!!

The hut of a Fiji King. The king would sleep in the bed and his favorite wife on the floor. When the king died, the favorite wife was killed so that she could keep the king company in the after-life. Pretty crazy if you ask me.
