Hawaii, 2011 - DAY 2

Day 2 in Hawaii was PEARL HARBOR DAY for us. Travis' mom really wanted to see this. Even though we had been there a year ago, we still had fun and enjoyed it a lot! They had done a lot since we had been there last including putting in a museum. It was really cool!!

Fun plaque

USS Arizona Memorial

The Fam at Pearl Harbor (USS Arizona Memorial is behind us)

They had all of these neat quotes around Pearl Harbor. This one is by Eleanor Roosevelt and it says, "Dear Lord/Lest I continue/My complacent way/Help me to remember/Somehow out there/A man died for me today/As long as there be war/I then must/Ask and answer/Am I worth dying for?

Cool sign at Pearl Harbor

We watched the movie about the attack on Pearl Harbor and then made our way to the USS Arizona

On the way over to the Arizona, we noticed a Coast Guard ship leaving their port. All of the people on the ship stood at attention while their ship passed the USS Arizona. Very cool

The girls and me on the Arizona Memorial

The wall on the memorial with the names of all those who died during the attack on Pearl Harbor

After we saw the USS Arizona, we decided to go over and see the Mighty Mo or the USS Missouri. We had to take a bus over to the ship.

Walking up to the Mo

The ship was huge. A guy gave us a small tour of the ship and told us the history of it.

The girls looking pretty small compared to the ship. The ship has wooden floors...

The place on the Mighty Mo where WWII ended

The fam standing where the papers were signed to end WWII

The documents that were signed by leaders of different countries to end the war

After we looked around on top of the ship for a while, we headed under the ship. It was cool to see how different rooms there were under the ship.

One of many food preparation rooms. This is where they prepared the vegies

Before we left, we decided to go to the front of the ship. You have to see the ship in person to really appreciate how big it really is!

It was really fun and educational to go to Pearl Harbor again. It's a peaceful, reverent place and it's hard to believe something so horrible happened there. After we were done seeing all we wanted to at Pearl Harbor, we went and ate dinner at California Pizza Kitchen. It was a fun Day 2 in Hawaii!!!
